Wrangling the 'Maids

Welcome to my newest blog-tastic followers, Lauren and Rebecca!

Today I'd like to discuss my bridesmaids.

I love these girls to death... but gosh darn it, sometimes I just want to knock them over the head for living so far away and/or being so busy all the time.

(Don't worry. I would hit them with something soft... like a pillow or a kitten.)

They each live between 2-8 hours away, and two of them I haven't even seen since before Ryan and I got engaged (that was a whopping 7+ months ago!).

All of this makes for a very difficult bride-to-bridesmaid relationship.

Every time I speak with them on the phone, they're all like "how is planning going?", and all I can respond with are generalizations like, "great... fine... fantastic." It's just too much of a hassle to fill them in more specifically than that when they aren't really around to be involved in the planning.

(Everyone take a moment to shed a tear for sad little me.)

Don't get me wrong... I don't regret picking any of my ladies. They're wonderful friends, and I can't imagine not having them next to me on the big day. But I guess I just thought this whole experience would be different.

TV tells me that my bridesmaids and I should be lounging around in our pajamas reading bridal magazines and giggling.

Why is TV lying to me?!

Instead, I'm stuck here sending out email after email trying to plan a bridesmaid get-together for January and figure out what city we should meet in so that each person will have to travel the least amount of distance.

Does anyone else have long-distance bridesmaids (or ones who work weekends), and have any good tips for getting all the gals together?

Girl, shut the front door! I was about to make a post similar to this today. I have 5 bridesmaids.. 1 lives in Canada that I haven't seen in 2 years (I live in Indiana), 2 live about 2 1/2 hours away, 1 lives about 2hrs and 45 mins away and the other lives just over 3 hours away.

There for awhile I was sending out e-mail after e-mail asking them questions or trying to fill them in. As much as I love them (2 of them are my sisters), would you beleve that almost every single one didn't respond. 1 or 2 would respond and the others would just ignore my questions or whatever to the point where I felt like I had to beat them with a .... kitten, lol, to get any kind of response out of them.

So, I decided to stop asking/telling things to the bridesmaids that don't respond in hopes that maybe they'll get their heads out of their butts, but nope... I haven't heard from about 3 of them (and that's including my sisters).

Anyways, enough of my whining, lol. Just wanted to let you know, you are DEFINITELY not alone in this feeling and I wish you nothing but luck organizing a get together!!

My bridesmaids are all long distance. One of them lives 2 hours away, the others live a plane ride away. We will have 5 of the 6 together at my shower next month--woohoo!

It can be frustrating. I just email them a LOT, and try not to get pissy unless they take over 2 weeks to respond. But I've done a lot of the planning by myself. Now that we are super close to the wedding, they are much more responsive.

I gchat with one of my bridesmaids a lot, and she helps me out, but I do wish they were like, in the same state as me.

2 of my 4 bridesmaids live in different states, and another is 3 - 4 hours away in another city. I was really lucky that they all came into two one weekend for dress shopping and putting together the save the dates.

I actually started to blog to keep them all updated, as well as emails.

Good luck with getting your bridesmaids together!

Ok none of my bridesmaids are that far away, and it's been impossible to get them together! I sent them a link to my blog and keep them updated in emails. It helps a lot!

(I know I am wayyy late on this comment, but better late than never) I live in San Francisco and my 5 bridesmaids are in LA, Chicago, Hawaii, Florida, and Italy. And they are all either married or in school, so they are beyond busy. My blogging is what keeps them updated, so they say, but since none of them ever comment, I don't ever get feedback. You are definitely not alone!
