2 Months To Go

Two?! Oh boy.

Ryan and I took an extensive look at our To Do list yesterday (well, okay... it's my To Do list... so it may have been the first time he actually read through it). After we were done, we felt really good about the progress we're making and the amount of projects left for our last two months.

I think I may have mentioned before... but my goal in this whole planning process is to get everything done by the week of the wedding. I have to work Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of that week, and I don't want to be scrambling trying to get stuff done. I want to use that time to organize and pack for our honeymoon (which we'll be leaving straight for from Chicago).

So far, we're totally on track for that goal. Yay, us!

Here's the breakdown...

Past Month Goals:

1) Purchase and create table numbers. Check! I bought 23 IKEA Tolsby frames from a fellow bride for a dollar each. I then spent this past weekend spray painting all of them silver metallic so they go with our colors (pink, navy, and silver). Ryan and I went through all the possibilities for naming our tables, and ended up with specific locations that correspond to photos of us. So I spend yesterday afternoon designing those.

2) Schedule dance lessons. A big fat X for this one. I keep meaning to do it, but then get distracted by other fun tasks. Ryan said he'd do it on Friday (he had off work), but then ended up cleaning the basement. ::shrug::

3) Schedule dress fittings. Check! Yay, finally! I actually had my very first dress fitting last weekend when I was visiting home. A tiny little woman with choppy English scurried around my dress, gushed over how beautiful it was, and crawled in and out of my skirt for an hour. She needs to take my dress in a whopping four inches at the top because of all the weight I've lost. Notice the lack of lacing room...

4) Plan our ceremony. Check! The ceremony was mostly planned by the church, but we figured out what readings we'd like to do, where they would go within the ceremony, and if we wanted any music. After we got all that worked out, I designed the programs. We have to send them to our Officiant to "ok" them before we can print.

5) Decide on aisle decor. Check! My mom and I met with our florist last weekend when I was home. It was nice to actually meet her in person, and she was super nice and accommodating. My mom and I told her we'd like to add aisle decor to our list (we decided DIYing it would be too much of a pain). So the florist is going to add a stem of white flowers tied with ribbon to every third pew going down the aisle.

6) Print family wedding photos and frame them. Check... sort of. I collected family wedding photos over the past month, and got them all printed 8x10 at Walgreens. Ryan and I have been on the hunt for the right frames, but haven't bought anything yet.

I'm pretty pleased with how we did on last month's list. But that's not all we got done!

Other Accomplishments:
  • We met with our reception venue and worked out all the details when it came to our menu, seating arrangements, and cake.
  • We confirmed our honeymoon reservations.
  • I bought the rest of my handkerchiefs.
  • We finally decided on a place to get Ryan's tux.
  • We payed off our Photo Booth.
  • I bought two mirrors from IKEA and spray painted them with chalkboard paint. We will use them for our seating chart.
  • We decided who will greet guests and hand out programs at the ceremony. Although, we haven't told them yet!
  • We decided to rent a bus to shuttle guests to and from the reception.
Despite how busy I've been with other stuff, I've been working pretty hard recently to get wedding things checked off the To Do list. It's so satisfying to mark it as "done"!

Goals for the Upcoming Month:
  • Decide how I want my makeup to look, and purchase anything I need for that.
  • Schedule dance lessons. (Seriously!)
  • Print menus and reception timelines.
  • Print table numbers.
  • Frame family wedding photos.
  • Create activity books for the kids.
I am in disbelief that the wedding is only two months away. I'm not stressed at all, and I haven't yet hit that wall that most brides hit where they just want it to be over and done with. I attribute that to my serious organizational skills and our reasonable amount of DIY projects.

At this point, I'm just getting really excited.

Your Days are Numbered

Sorry for the minor absence. I'm sick... for the third time since Thanksgiving. Ugh.

Now back to business. Our reception venue has their own table numbers.

You can see one of them in this photo I took from our tasting...

Here's another one...

So basically, they're just fine. And if our budget suddenly reaches its peak or we decide we need to spend an extra $1000 on menus or something like that... then these would work just fine.

But... honestly? They're not my style.

(I'm being nice.)

First of all, they're gold. And we don't have an ounce of gold in our wedding colors. (Reminder: Navy blue, pink, and silver/gray.) Yes, I realize they match the china. And if I could change that too, I would! But I can't. So I'm picking on something else.

Second of all, they're way too big! I want table number to be numbers... not centerpieces!

In conclusion: If I can at all help it, I will be creating my own. What bride-to-be doesn't like adding just one more thing to the "To Do" list, eh??

So here are some table number inspiration I have found...

Numbering the Vino - If you already plan on having wine bottles on your table, this may be the perfect space-saving solution. Unfortunately for us, that's just not the case. But it's a great idea nonetheless.

You and Your Better Half - You could take photos of you and your fiance and Photoshop in the numbers (or carry around a mini chalkboard with you). To mix things up, you could take photos in some of your favorite locations around town... or perhaps you and your fiance could try to form the number using only your arms and legs (that would take some serious bendy talent!).

Dressing it up with Ribbon - These numbers are pretty standard, but I love how much better it looks on the left with the ribbon. It would be a cheap and easy DIY to tie some color-scheme-matching ribbon to each of the stands.

Meaningful Titles - This is becoming increasingly popular... using names or titles or places instead of numbers. I'm not sure if our venue would be okay with this, but it's definitely something I will have to find out. You could even include a small snippit on the back about what that particular location means to you as a couple.

My Dog is a Star - If you're like us and don't plan on including Fido in the festivities, you could pay some serious homage by using him or her on all the table numbers. It might even get guests to get up and mingle some just so they can check out your adorable fur baby.

Au Naturel - Wooden table numbers are easy, clean, and can be as big or little as you'd like. Plus, I imagine they'd be easy to sell to another bride-to-be after the big day is over.

Ikea, My Love - So we meet again. And what future bride hasn't seen these adorable (and wallet-friendly!) table numbers from the one and only, IKEA? The great thing about these frames is they are double-sided. You could put the table number on one side, and the menu on the other! If they came in silver, I would be all over that.

I've got a lot of thinking to do over a ridiculously small detail. But it's just one more opportunity for Ryan and I's personalities to shine through on our wedding day.

I'll take it!

What kind of table numbers will you have?

Prop Me Up!

After my freakout on Saturday, I decided to use my day off on Monday to start some DIY projects.

First up... photo booth props!

Supplies: hot glue gun, stiff felt in multiple colors (I chose pink, red, and black), dowel rods, scissors, and moustache templates if you need them (which I did. I found mine here).

Step One: Cut out the templates, place them on the stiff felt, and cut accordingly.

Simple, right?

Well, some of the 'staches were twisty and hard to cut with my jinky old scissors. It probably would benefit someone to trace the template onto the felt instead of just trying to cut it like I did. But, ahh... too late for that now!

Step Two: Attach the moustaches to the dowel rods using the hot glue. It dries much quicker than I expected, so I learned to be quick about my placement!

Step Three: Admire your work!

Step Four: Test out the moustaches.

The Gentleman...

The Villian...

The Cowboy...

The Painter...

and the Dairy Queen...

After that, the gears were really turning, so I started to create some of my own. These ended up being some of my favorites...

I used leftover felt to create "Team Kelly" and "Team Ryan" flags. I hope our friends use these in the photo booth. I think they would make for some adorable pictures!

I tried to test the lips out on Maggie, but she failed and just wanted to sniff them...

DIY Cost Breakdown:
Stiff Felt: $2.37
Hot Glue Gun: $3.49
Template: Free
Scissors and Dowel Rods: Already owned
Total: $5.86

Go Team Kelly!
